Costs & budgeting
DAAD indicates living costs of about €900–€1,200 per month and semester contributions of €70–€430. Many public bachelor’s and master’s programmes charge no tuition, but exceptions apply by state, university and programme. Private universities and some master’s courses charge tuition. “No tuition” does not mean no study costs.
Intakes & timing
Look for winter-semester or summer-semester entry in the DAAD course database. Not every programme offers both. Use the university’s deadline for international applicants and allow time for qualification checks and document preparation.
Entry requirements
Check whether your school or degree qualification is recognised for the intended course. A preparatory course (Studienkolleg) may be required for some undergraduate applicants. German- and English-taught programmes set different language requirements; the university makes the admission decision.
Scholarships & funding
Use the DAAD scholarship database, filtered by nationality, qualification and subject. Many schemes target graduates or researchers. Check experience requirements, application documents and the relevant funding cycle.
